Lexington, Ohio, September 16, 2006 Mid Ohio Sports Car Course

The National Auto Sports Association (NASA) crowned its first ever 944 Cup National Champion this weekend. Point Pleasant Beach N.J. resident  and recent recipient of the Mid-Atlantic Regional 944 Cup Championship (Summit Point, West Virginia, August 2006) drove his Bodymotion built and prepared Rothmans 944 to a first place finish in today's race, securing him top National Honors.

In recent years Hrymack, a local tax specialty attorney, has campaigned his Porsche in the 944 Cup series earning points along the way toward hopefully, at season end, a  championship. Joe missed the regional championship by just two points in 2004. For 2006 Joe, along with crew chief Walter Piasecki, wife Mae, and sons Kyle and Hayden, accumulated enough points to garner the Mid-Atlantic regional trophy in late August. This earned him the invitation to the national runoff event in Ohio.

The NASA organization has classes, similar to other club racing, SCCA and PCA, to maintain parity amongst competitors. The interesting part is that unlike PCA competition, you may find yourself on track with a BMW or Mazda or a Mustang, which makes the show very enjoyable.

Over the years our craftsman here at Bodymotion have built various racers using many different platforms, early and late 911's,914's, 944's, 930 and 944 turbos to mention a few. Joe has been racing 944's and is very confident and comfortable in them. He purchased the current car from a racer in Canada. It had been run under the Rothmans livery and competed in SCCA and PCA classes. The chassis was solid but in need of a professional roll cage. We designed, fabricated and welded in a Grand Am / NASCAR legal cage using the strongest materials and latest welding techniques available. After installing  proper safety padding, two way radio for in car to pit communication, cool suit and fire system, the interior was ready to race. The exterior was striped to bare metal and refinished in factory guards red using two stage Sikkens material and clear coat. Joe was able to duplicate all the original Rothmans decals and strips. The car looks brand new inside and out and always brings compliments. The engine and transmission are built here in house, at Bodymotion. The car has been tested and tuned on our performance chassis dynamometer. Joe has never had a DNF due to engine or other drive line failure, a record we are very proud of. The chassis suspension, sway bars and brakes are all readily available parts that we install on many, club drivers ed and auto cross cars. The 944's may be out of production, but, like their predecessors, the 914's, they provide a fun, economical, fast way around the track.

Joe asked me to attend the runoff race to support the car and assist crew chief Walter should any unexpected adjustments or repairs be needed. The few that were needed left us with plenty of time to enjoy the racing action at Mid Ohio. We even got to witness the National Drift Competition, where they crowned a champion driver for driving sideways and melting his rear tires, all the while bouncing off the rev limiter. It was a fun weekend and I was very happy that Joe asked me to be a part of it.

I am very proud of Joe and our team at the shop for getting to the final round in a national competition. And to see the joy and relief in his face splattered with champagne was like the icing on the cake. Congratulations to Joe for a great job all season long, Good luck in 2007!
