Clive
Bull, 43, lives in Short Hills, New Jersey, with his wife and three children.
Clive drives a 1998 BMW M3, which he has owned for three months.
He has had modifications done to his M3, which included a Dinan Intake,
computer tuning, exhaust system, springs, sway bars, and front upper strut
brace.
Clive purchased a showroom
4-door 1998 BMW E-36 M3. It is,
arguably, the best “balanced” sports sedan available in stock factory trim.
Wanting to make a good thing even better, fine tuning his own ideas of
“balance” in a vehicle, he carefully chose Dinan engine and suspension
modifications to turn the vehicles performance levels up a few notches.
Bodymotion installed Dinan
OBD-2 computer software upgrade, maximizing engine performance allowing the
vehicle to accelerate deeper into the redline and eliminating the top speed
governor. This procedure runs into
the mid $400.00 range including installation.
Bodymotion then installed a Dinan Carbon Fiber Cold Air Induction System.
The system really works flawlessly in providing a constant flow of cool
air to the engine, $625.00 installed.
To remove exhaust
restriction, Bodymotion replaced the exhaust system, from the cat back, with a
stainless steel exhaust system exiting the rear valence in polished twin tips,
$950.00 installed. To further
enhance performance, Bodymotion replaced the factory exhaust manifolds with a
tuned length stainless steel Supersprint header system, $1,550.00 installed. These products enhance the vehicles performance and driving
characteristics showing improvements from a low RPM right through to the
“bumped up” redline. The
vehicle seems to always be in the power band, accelerating through the gears.
To optimize the shifting feel, Bodymotion installed a BMW Motorsport
short throw shift kit, $495.00.
With increased performance, Clive
wanted to improve the vehicles ride and cornering characteristics. Bodymotion installed progressive rate springs, front and rear
lower the vehicle approximately 1.25 inches, $750.00 installed.
The vehicles new “squat” gives it outstanding aesthetic presence,
while firming out the ride approximately 20% stiffer than stock.
The swaybars were replaced with Dinan adjustable units, $625.00
installed, eliminating the remaining bodyroll.
Bodymotion installed steel braided brake lines and semi-metallic pads to
improve braking and reduce pedal fade under hard braking, $575.00 installed,
flushed and bled through with race fluid. A
three-gauge center console kit was installed to keep the driver informed of the
engine upgraded “vital signs”. Red
light diffusers were utilized to match factory red gauge lumination, $675.00
installed.
Clive had Bodymotion finish
the vehicles “look” with the addition of front and rear bumper spoiler
pieces out of the U.K. This final
touch really contributes to giving the vehicle a more aggressive appearance.
